The Troop of the Elite
Policeman is never an ordinary occupation in whichever country in the world. In China, children are infused with such ideology that policeman is one of the most hollow and respected jobs in all because they risk their lives trying to protect every citizen and giving people a sense of security. However, things are different in Rio de Janeiro which used to be the capital of Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro, there exist quite an economic distance between the rich and the poor, which generates countless slums for the poor and there the slums are the center of the crimes and turbulence. People trade drugs and they occupy weapons which enable them to murder people without any effort. What police to those criminals is what cats to mice. In these slums, people hate police who are considered cruel and inhumane in the poor’s mind. As far as these policemen are concerned, they itch to wipe out all the criminals there. They seem born to be the enemy of criminals.
In the Brazilian movie, the troop of the elite, as it is seen in the title, there is a special troop in which soldiers are trained to battle with the criminals in these slums. I witnessed how they are chosen and how they are trained. Inhumane, really, that’s what I can express. Those who endured and went through the toughest military training are something of heroes, but lost some precious part in their soul as human beings. They indeed, like what the slum-people described them, are cruel in the way they treat the criminals. But when we are reminded how criminals destroyed the rules of the society, law, and hurt people, we just forget about it.
In the film, a group of rich students in university, kind of silly and stupendous, tried to help the poor in the slums and paid vehement hatred to the police. When the protagonist or the story-teller said a sentence that people don’t feel sad when policemen die, I felt a little bit furious.
All above are what passed through my mind in a time, nothing valuable.
The Troop of the Elite, a good remedy for inducing sleep.
