Titanic

August 25th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

I can’t remember clearly how many times I have watched this movie “Titanic”. Every time I watch it I have different feelings about it.

Titanic is truly a successful movie. It tells us a moving and romantic love story that is rarely seen today.Titanic teaches us a lesson: love can make miracle happen. Even in horrible disasters we should still have faith in love. Not only once did Titanic set me in tears. I remember the first time is the band on the ship that touches my heart. When everybody else around them was in desperate panic, they used their music to console every frightened heart. Why? This is because they have love for all the people on this ship and have love for their jobs.

Another time, it strikes me as crazy that Rose went back to find Jack in the Crew Passage. Again it proved that love can make the impossible in other people’s eye possible. I do admire the love they have for each other. Besides all this many other details also touched my heart, such as ladies and children first policy and Rose’s final promise to Jack. All those manage to add special spice to this movie.

At last I would like to share two interesting but meaningful dialogues with you. Rose: I am flying, Jack. Jack: Rose, I trust you. I trust you, Rose.

I will always keep this movie on my computer. Whenever I doubt the existence of true love, I should watch this movie once again. True love does exist.

My Package Holiday in Egypt

August 9th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

I’m hooked on package holidays, so I have gone to many places and countries. However, the one that impressed me most is still the Package Holiday Egypt. All through my life I have relived that very special day. It is really a thrill of lifetime.
Since we joined in the package holiday, the travel agency arranged every detail for us. On arriving, we checked in a very luxurious hotel with which extravagant pools look out over the life-giving Nile where the feluccas ply their trade as they’ve done for centuries.
Vast monuments and tombs stand proudly along the serene waters of the mighty Nile, symbolic of long-gone civilisations and 6,000 years of continuous history. Today, Egypt combines its vibrant culture and antiquity with the comfort of modern hotels and well appointed cruise boats that sail effortlessly past lush oases and shimmering deserts, on course for discovery and adventure.
During this memorable trip, we drifted down the Nile to marvel and the remains of the world’s most sophisticated early civilisations, we visited the bustling metropolis that is Cairo, or sometimes we just had the walk from our air-conditioned rooms in hotel to the beach or the pool. Everything seems so natural and peaceful. In such a place like Egypt, your mind, your spirit, your body, can really get forever tranquility.

International Oddities

August 2nd, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

My dad smokes like a chimney. We have tried to prevent my dad from enjoying tobacco, but he himself was too much of an addict. He used to smoke 5 packs of cigarette per day, nearly covering all types and brands of products. However, it seems that only one brand is his favorite recently. One day, I happened to pick up his cigarette can and found it’s called Krypto - Big Bud which was made by International Oddities. At night, my dad sat there, lit his cigarette, his hand very steady, his eyes narrowed against the smoke. In my view, he was like traveling in the paradise, too enjoyable to describe.
I asked my dad what’s the magic of this Krypto - Big Bud. He told me, it is the result of years of experiments and testing. With its supreme quality and freshness, Krypto can have you marveling at the texture, taste and smell. The impressive bright green buds are stunning and a pleasure to experience. Even though my dad is a cigarette addict, he thinks it’s a tough torture to smoke some cigarette of poor quality. And for the first time, International Oddities gives him this kind of feeling that “blow a smoke ring to the stars with the Worlds most unique smoking experience”.

Underdog

July 29th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

The film The Pursuit of Happiness, starred by Will Smith, is surely the_pursuit_of_happyness.pngon my favorite film list. It is a film about common people or even so-called underdogs in American society. It tells a story about Christopher Garden who is on the lowest layer of American society.
Christopher lost almost all his money due to an ill-directed investment. He can only make a living by selling one kind of medical machine to doctors in his local community, which, of course, can’t give his family members a satisfactory life. So finally his wife left him, leaving young Chris to him. Life was becoming very tough after his wife was gone. Christopher and his child had nowhere to live because he has no money to pay rent. But he never failed to do his duty as a father. He cried, silently, but he never complained. He never gave up trying no matter how hard life is to him. Finally, he succeeded, gloriously. When his boss told him he was employed, his eyes was flooded with tears and I was deeply moved. Thank God. His efforts finally paid off.
From this film, again, we can feel the value system of American society: no matter who you are you can make your own success through your constant efforts and reach the peak of your life. That is part of what we call American dream.

My Best Summer Vacation

July 28th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

Last summer vacation is surely the best vacation I’ve ever had during my life, which I will never forget.
Last year, after my schoolwork was all done, my family planned to enjoy a good vacation. But then came a big problem—where to go? My uncle recommended us a very good online travel guide called Trusted Tours & Attractions. There were many famous places on this website, with their detailed information, such as interest introduction, traffic map etc. What’s more, we can save some money if booking the ticket of scenery spots on their website.
We were quite interested in Orlando, so we clicked things to do in Orlando on their website and then it lead us to most of the places of interest in Orlando. And we finally chose Kennedy Space Center, which is America’s busiest launch and landing facility. There, we really had a good time when we witnessed the entire process, from the extensive preparation work, to an earth-shaking launch, to a breathtaking landing. We touched a rock from Mars, we got on the rides and saw what it felt like to be an astronaut, we had a really good view of rocket garden and Saturn. Time flied as we indulged ourself in all these wonderful things. Now, my dad is planning to spend his coming vacation in Atlanta through this website.

The Troop of the Elite

July 22nd, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

Policeman is never an ordinary occupation in whichever country in the world. In China, children are infused with such ideology that policeman is one of the most hollow and respected jobs in all because they risk their lives trying to protect every citizen and giving people a sense of security. However, things are different in Rio de Janeiro which used to be the capital of Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro, there exist quite an economic distance between the rich and the poor, which generates countless slums for the poor and there the slums are the center of the crimes and turbulence. People trade drugs and they occupy weapons which enable them to murder people without any effort. What police to those criminals is what cats to mice. In these slums, people hate police who are considered cruel and inhumane in the poor’s mind. As far as these policemen are concerned, they itch to wipe out all the criminals there. They seem born to be the enemy of criminals.

In the Brazilian movie, the troop of the elite, as it is seen in the title, there is a special troop in which soldiers are trained to battle with the criminals in these slums. I witnessed how they are chosen and how they are trained. Inhumane, really, that’s what I can express. Those who endured and went through the toughest military training are something of heroes, but lost some precious part in their soul as human beings. They indeed, like what the slum-people described them, are cruel in the way they treat the criminals. But when we are reminded how criminals destroyed the rules of the society, law, and hurt people, we just forget about it.

In the film, a group of rich students in university, kind of silly and stupendous, tried to help the poor in the slums and paid vehement hatred to the police. When the protagonist or the story-teller said a sentence that people don’t feel sad when policemen die, I felt a little bit furious.

All above are what passed through my mind in a time, nothing valuable.

The Troop of the Elite, a good remedy for inducing sleep.

Kungfu Panda

July 16th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

This is a controversial cartoon because the director of the movie is thought to achieve a success by sort of stealing Chinese stuffs; it gains popularity in its industry, though. A chain of Chinese elements was infused in the cartoon, for example, panda, the national treasure of this country and dragon, which Chinese people worship, were applied in the movie which colored the film with a vehement Chinese aura. In spite of the westerner director, Chinese atmosphere could be figured out everywhere. The director organized a team of experienced Kungfu players or students, a monkey, a crane, a serpent, a tiger and a mantis. All of them are the origin of ancient Chinese Kungfu from which we can be reminded of Monkey Fist, Crane Fist, Serpent Fist, Tiger Fist and Mantis Fist in Chinese Kungfu. I can assure, the director 13102q013s.jpgof the movie must be a keen fan of Chinese Kungfu.
Why the palace is named Jade Palace? Jade, in the eyes of ancient Chinese, is the symbol of fortune. I guess, because of this, the playwright entitled the palace Jade Palace.

As far as I am concerned, I think, the director must be conveying something more profound, if it is connected with politics. There are three key characters which might respectively represent three political stands. Panda, undoubtedly, stands for China, which, to some extent, is the miniature of Chinese history. In the past or still now, China has long been biased by the outside world (or the western world) because of its huge and plump appearance. When he got powerful, other denied it and not willing to accept it. But China is kind to anyone and ready to help others and willing to dedicate itself to the whole world even at the stake of his precious life.
The white tiger, or Tailang, is a stereotyped Japanese name, which could stand for Japan. Whether it is prejudiced, the characteristic of the white tiger is as belligerent as Japanese people. It was born to be talented and learned things quickly. But at the bottom of his heart, he is unsaveably aggressive (derogatory sense). He was saved, loved and taught by his teacher, but at last, his ambition defeated his conscience which made his an inhumane mad man.
The coon or Master Shifu is a center character in the cartoon in that he is the educator of all the students in the movie. The movie was created by westerners. Therefore, consciously and unconsciously, the creator conveyed an idea that westerner was the teacher of the whole world with both Japan and China his best students.
What helped Panda defeated Tailang is the last unique skill, The Wushi finger hold, which reminded me of the devastative weapon in modern world. At the moment when the panda exerted it, the whole village was shrouded with a huge strong light, like nuclear light.
What delighted me of the movie are also the use of Pinyin in the cartoon such as Wugui, Shifu which mean tortoise and teacher in English. This is a sign that Chinese language is and will be influencing English along with the prosperity of Chinese nation.
The most impressive dialogue in the movie: Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift. This is why it is called present.
Cherish the moment and grasp every opportunity.

Mum,love me once again

June 25th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

The feeling is so odd that I nearly lost my ability of being touched by the moving spectacles in the nationwidely-known film.
This movie, Mother love me once again, was a classic work which used to have succeeded in winning the tears of thousands of millions of Chinese people, however it didn’t make my eyes wet. I felt shamed of being so heartless and merciless.
During the movie, I was always waiting for a climax which was able to make myself totally defeated. I looked into Joshua’s eyes from time to time to check whether he was made tear. Similarly, he seemed also calm and cool.
I conclude several might-be reasons why we were not touched. First and foremost, we both have grown up to adults in which process we inevitably lost some quality of a child in us such as innocence and we became more reasonable and logical. Actually I found something not in accordance with the real life in this movie, but I refuse to reveal it. I think it was acceptable as the movie was made in 1988 when Chinese movie industry was immature. I told Joshua that I guessed there might imply some more profound meaning in this movie. This movie was shot by Taiwanese and it told a story of a pair of affectionate mother and son that I considered symbolized mainland China and Taiwan Island. The son(Taiwan) was taken away from his mother(Mainland China) for a better-off life. In this movie, there was a radio broadcast which forecast weather .The radio broadcaster claimed Taiwan a province instead of a country which exposed that the movie producer was a pro-communist person.
Of course, the above mentioned is all what I guessed and may never be certified.
As a matter of fact, this movie more or less reminds me of the time of my childhood. The theme song of the movie,”Mom is the best in the world”, became well-spread as soon as the movie was famous.
Anyway, it is indeed a success as a Chinese film in the 1980s.

Wangjiang Story

June 19th, 2008 lily Posted in Entertainment No Comments »

Life is composed of a pile of still pictures which are orderly organized. College life is short indeed, but in this period of time which is considered the most influential time on our whole life, we go through difficulties, cheers, achievements as well as our waterloos.

College life itself is usually thought to be a small society, or say, the miniature of society. We grow up to real adults; we taste the first love; we are faced with drawbacks.

Wangjiang Story, a DV video, or a not-strictly-called movie, was filmed by the graduates in my university. It told a story happened in Wangjiang Campus of Sichuan University, connecting irrelevant people by organizing the pictures of their college life. The director depicted our college life as four phases respectively called Youth, Look-forward, Choosing, and Outlook which symbolize the four years of our university life.

In the first phase, the protagonists in the movie or the freshmen who newly enter university are invariably curious about everything happening in the university. They are passionate and ambitious as well as a little bit fearful.

The second phase, which I myself am being through, is the most cheerful and worthy-remembering time in college life. Freshmen are no longer fresh or green hands. We have seen through something but we still can see something. We become much bolder than in the first year. We dare to undertake doing what we are fond of. Well, still, we are looking forward to the foggy future.

The third year, described as the embarrassing time, is a turning point of our college life, in which we try to map out our career plan, control our life. We got too many options which in turn bewilder us. In this stage, we have to make some crucial decisions that may influence or directly change our life everlastingly.

The last year, the conclusion of the whole college life, meanwhile is the beginning of a brand new start. It is the idlest years in the 4 years for most people. During this year, parting is an unchanged melody. We begin to draw our attention to some mates who were usually ignored before, and we suddenly find that we care about each other. 3 years have passed. Campus carries our dreams and youths, but there is a brand new future out there waiting for us. Optimism is what we need.

Life is changing every day. Too many stories withered away along with the time passing by, but we have never and we will never give up the outlook for our future, facing up everything with our strong and broad mind. Recall is always poetic, where there were our youth, passion, and dream, but we never give up pursuing the future because we believe, tomorrow will be a lot better.
