Volunteers in Beijing

July 8th, 2008 lily Posted in Others | No Comments »

As we know, between August 2006 and April 2008, the Beijing Olympic Volunteers Program has recruited 1000,000 volunteers. 70,000 are needed for the summer Games and 30,000 for the Paralympics, according to officials form the Beijing Olympic Volunteers Co-ordination Office Group (BOCOG). Under BOCOG rules, anybody aged 18 and over in April 2008 can be a volunteer. They will work across a wide spectrum of duties, including protocol reception, translation, transport, security, medical service, spectators guiding, communication and so on. BOCOG also set up four volunteer project. They are Towards Olympics Voluntary Service Project, Olympic Games-time Volunteer Project, Paralympics Games-time Project and BOCOG Pre-Games Volunteer Project.

The Games-time volunteers are expected to come mainly form universities in Beijing, but all Beijing residents, members of various ethnic groups form around the country, compatriots form HK, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese and foreign citizens are also welcome to apply.

Certainly, volunteers will have to abide by China’s laws and regulations, meet age and other requirements set by BOCOG, have the ability and qualifications required for the designated posts, be ready to provide unpaid services to the Beijing Olympic Games, and accept BOCOG’s leadership and management.

Finally we can see, it is proud to be a volunteer. It is challenging to be a volunteer. It is also toilsome to be a volunteer.

A legend of paper-cut

July 5th, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

21_71_9c295d675a5b73e.gifA legend about paper-cut was recorded in a great book called ShihChi. When the king of Zhou Dynasty was young, one day he played with his brother and happened to cut a piece of leaf into the shape of jade. He said:” I will use this to give a title for you.” The father of Zhou asked him to keep his promise several days later. But the would-be king claimed that he just said that for fun. Then the father said that the words spoken by a king were as precious as gold, which would be recorded by officer of history, sung by singers of the basilica and admired by other officers. At the second century BC, paper was invented by ancient people, after which paper-cut became popular.

Paper-cut then became a symbol of good life because of such a meaningful legend.

The Pig

July 2nd, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

I read quite an interesting poetry this morning whose title is The Pig.

It was an evening in November,
As I very well remember,
I was strolling down the street in drunken pride,
But my knees were all aflutter,
And I landed in the gutter,
And a pig came up and laid down by my side.
Yes, I lay there in the gutter,
Thinking thoughts I could not utter,
When a colleen passing by did softly say,
“You can tell a man who boozes,
By the company he chooses.”
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

We often think that poetry has to be serious or about a topic that is important. Nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, a great deal of poetry is funny and humorous. Poetry talks about life, and life, as we all know, is very often hilarious and comical. Poetry puts into words some of our laughter in life.
In the Pig, this smart pig does not want to be regarded as company of a drunken man. Is it only a joke or ironic criticism about alcoholic? Surely, different readers have their own Hamlet in mind. Poem is often written with one set meaning by the author and amazingly processed with new meanings by different readers. So hurry up, pick up a selection and have fun finding your own understanding of each piece!

Chinese paper-cut is a kind of ancient manual art, which has existed in folk for more than 2,000 paper-cut.jpgyears. But nobody knows for sure about its first appearance. It is said that paper-cut dates back to the time before paper was invented by Cai Lun. Then it gained its further development in Southern and Northern Dynasty, and reached its peak in Qing Dynasty, when economy was in rapid development.

To my friends

June 28th, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

Dear friends:
It’s my great honor to own you — all of my friends. Even though you guys are arrogant, you have wild flights of fancy. Some even plan to a hair restoration only because of hair loss. I still love you all.
For those friends who come into my life to help me when I was in stuck, encourage me when I encountered frustration, give me fun when I was totally upset, at this very moment, I would like to tell you “thank you ,thank you for coming into my life and  giving me hope” Although this journey is an unhappy one I will cherish it as well. It’s nothing but a recollection  that worth recalling and cherishing.
I’m an common huanm being in this big big world ,I’m not an immortal I cannot make you famous . I’m not a supernatural being so I’m unable to give you anything. But something I can do for you. I swear I will do my utmost to help you as long as I can accommplish.
Because of you, I can keep anything disgusting or anything annoying out of my life.
Because of you, my life is not what it used to be, it becomes colorful and  amusing .
Because of you, I changed my fade dream into a bright hope .

Psychological Problem

June 28th, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

“Yeah, it’s normal.” said Frank.
I went to see Frank this morning. He was invited to help those Chinese students with any mental problems. I initially thought myself sheer normal and needn’t ask for a therapist for any help but after Joshua went to him and told him about my situation, Frank suggested me go to him.
We were seated in a circle talking freely like friends. Everyone just expressed his/her only problem, the others as listeners meanwhile. Frank explained to us the reasons of us being scared and nervous, uttering that any tension not in excess was reasonable. Fortunately, I was an exception. I then asked him something irrelevant to the main topic, my self-esteem. By the standards of what Frank taught us in class, I realized that I had a quite low self-esteem. I cared much about how others think of me, how they evaluate me and anything about me. I was easily influenced by others and others’ comment on me. Frank said that self-esteem was formed once one was born. It grew along with one’s growing up, influenced by his education, family, and any other surroundings. Frank told me that my life was mine, not others’ .Live for myself, not others. I further understood the meaning of American’s value and their way of life. The word, individualism, was the key to my solution to my problem.
From this moment on, shout out “I’m good. I’m gonna be better.” It will unconsciously change me for the better.

Alteration

June 27th, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

Any evil could generate from a tiny distraction. Keep away from it and drop a hint to myself consciously or unconsciously. I want to lead a completely different life.
Uncontrollability could strike or even destroy the base of storing the provisions for the future.

Few days ago, our teacher gave us some nursing home reviews which were reviews of the quality of care for older women in long-term residential care. It seemed that I saw through these reports into my future life. I’m such a dissocial person who destined to end my life lonely.

I need a change, at least, in this respect. Look at my life in retrospect! What a mess! Programme for the future from planning every tiny thing in my life and tightly cling to it. A success is the one who influences others rather than being affected by others. Jessie mentioned in her journal that she desired for charisma and cried out for being a leader. Even she was so ambitious, why can’t I? The quality of being charismatic could be built up little be little via numerous activities whether significant ones or subtle ones. I got a plan, for my summer days in the next two months, that I am gonna be a tutor in an English training center in my local city and then idle the dozen of days home together with my family. Tomorrow I’ll go downtown to buy some gifts for my friends and my parents and some necessities for myself. Independency is in the air.

My day is bound to be there, awaiting me.

Where our hands can touch lies our bright future!

Redefine myself

June 27th, 2008 lily Posted in Life | No Comments »

A couple of days before, I received an Email forwarded from Nannan. It was a quiz which showed Nannan’s internal world and it required the replier to forward this mail to those he/she cares about. I feel appreciative that Nannan answered in the quiz that the most unforgettable period of time in her life was the second year of the senior high school and that she thought I would be the first one to reply her. Ha-ha, I take such a significant position in her mind.
Then next, I have to answer these questions, some of which are genuinely harsh and I have never thought of or I was unwilling to consider in the past, whwqy0517-friend011.jpgbut for the sake of Nannan’s reliance on me, I was determined to contribute my intimates to those I care and answer those questions step by step with my whole heart’s devoted like a pilgrim or a reverent religion believer.
Amongst all the questions, my hobbies, my location of 10 years from now and whether I have considered suicide are the top 3 most acute ones on my part. I used to question myself what I am really fond of and my future occupation, but I can’t answer them with certainty. According to some philosophers, I know, it’s really hard for one to completely know oneself. “Know Thyself.” Socrates said.
It’s a challenging work, meanwhile, to send the quiz which was infused with my “confidential” internal private world. It is like an exposure of a vampire in the sun. In most people’s eyes, I am invariably a smiling girl who seem never grow up without any unhappiness however, I do have my own small world where I can get my own back.
Quiz accomplished, I have to decide who to send to. Who do I care? Who are the most intimate friends in my relationship circle? These are other two questions that came after. Without any hesitation, I click “the group of people” who are always in the bottom in my heart and sent the mail to them. When it came to those in university, I paused several minutes. It’s no doubt that I knew more people in university than in high school, but there are very few of them I can really pour my heart to. Finally, I chose three of them.
